Design thinking for tomorrow’s innovators.

We make the digital world a little more human every day. One of our favorite ways? By sharing our expertise annually with 150 to 200 master’s students at the University of Amsterdam. In two hands-on design thinking workshops, we teach them to see through the eyes of the user so they can develop solutions that truly make an impact.

Building the future

Everything we do revolves around creating digital solutions that help people move forward. Since 2017, we’ve shared this passion with the new generation of thinkers and creators in the Master’s program in Information Studies at the University of Amsterdam. During two interactive workshops, we guide them through our approach: working on solutions that genuinely benefit users, in a structured and creative way.

Design and technology

Data and technology offer endless possibilities. But technical innovation only gains true value when it connects with the people who use it. That’s why we teach students the power of design thinking. They discover how to combine their technical expertise with user insights to create lasting value.

“By combining students’ technical knowledge and skills with design thinking, we are educating a new generation that focuses not only on what is technically possible, but especially on what users actually need and value.”

Hands-on approach

Our workshops center around the “double diamond” design process. We alternate short presentations with practical group assignments. Students work in teams on a specific client case and use the same tools and best practices that we apply in our daily work. This makes theory immediately applicable.

In the first workshop, students immerse themselves into the user, their context, and the problem they want to tackle. They translate their client’s question into a concrete design challenge. They explore different solution directions, select the most promising ideas, and develop these into conceptual sketches with a clear rationale.

In the second workshop, we focus on prototyping and validation. Students define their MVP (Minimum Viable Product) and design a paper prototype of the key screens and interactions. They create a test script, test their solution with users, and incorporate insights into the next iteration of their solution.

Support where needed

Our involvement doesn’t stop with the workshops. While students work in teams on their projects over six months, we remain available to support them. For those who want to deepen their knowledge or have specific questions about their project, we organize Q&A sessions to help them move forward.

Lasting impact

Through our structured approach, practical templates, and concrete examples, we make design thinking directly applicable. Over the past 10 years, we’ve helped around 2,000 students look beyond mere technical feasibility. This new generation takes this knowledge with them to the organizations where they’ll work. In this way, we contribute to a digital world that is not only smart but also human- and user-centered.
